Substance use and recovery

Treatment for alcohol and opioid use disorder, without the lecture. A return to use is information about what the plan is missing.

How this is approached

Substance use and psychiatric symptoms usually arrive together, and treating one while ignoring the other tends to fail. Both are handled in the same appointment, by the same clinician.

You will be asked what you are using and how much, and the answer is clinical information. Being honest about it makes the treatment safer, particularly where withdrawal or an interaction is in play.

What this is not

Nobody here is going to lecture you

A return to use is treated as information about what the plan was missing. People who expect to be judged tend to under-report, and under-reporting is the thing that makes this dangerous.

Treatment

Naltrexone, with withdrawal monitoring, alongside treatment of the depression, anxiety or trauma that is often underneath.

Medically supervised detoxification and residential treatment are not provided here. Where either is what the situation calls for, you will be told so directly and helped toward it.

What we believe about substance use

Substance use is a medical problem that responds to medical treatment, and shame is the thing that keeps people away from it. Most people arrive having already tried to stop on their own, often several times. That is evidence of effort, and it is a reasonable place to start from.

Goals are set with you. Abstinence is one legitimate goal and reduced use is another, and a plan you will actually follow beats the plan that sounds best in the room. Progress gets measured in things you can see: sleep, work, money, the people you had stopped calling. The principles behind all of that are set out in how care works here.

Frequently asked questions about substance use care

What substance use treatments are provided at Stillmind?

Stillmind provides outpatient substance use evaluation and recovery support for alcohol and substance use concerns. Treatment combines harm reduction principles, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and medical psychiatric oversight in an unhurried, non-judgmental environment.

Can I receive outpatient addiction care via telehealth in Indiana?

Yes. Outpatient substance use evaluations and follow-up consultations are available via secure, encrypted telepsychiatry across all Indiana counties, ensuring privacy and clinical continuity.

Do you require total abstinence before starting care?

No. Stillmind meets individuals wherever they are in their recovery journey. We partner with patients working toward harm reduction, moderation, or full sobriety without lectures or moralizing.

Withdrawal can be dangerous

Stopping alcohol or benzodiazepines abruptly after heavy, regular use can cause seizures and can be fatal. If you are planning to stop, say so before you do. If you are already in withdrawal and unwell, treat that as an emergency and call 911.
