The same appointment
Video appointments are not a lesser version of an office visit. Same length, same questions, same clinician, same notes. Both evaluation and follow-up run this way.
For a lot of people it is the difference between getting care and not: a lunch break instead of half a day, no drive across the city, and no childcare to arrange.
What you need
- A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a working microphone
- A private place to sit where you can speak freely
- To be physically inside Indiana at the time of the appointment
You have to be in Indiana during the appointment
This is a licensing rule and not a preference. A license to practice in Indiana covers patients who are in Indiana, so an appointment cannot go ahead while you are out of state. If you are traveling, say so when you book and the appointment can be moved.
What we believe about access
The hardest part of psychiatric care is often the getting to it. A drive across the city, half a day of leave, childcare to arrange, a car that is unreliable. Each one of those turns into a missed appointment, and a missed appointment turns into a gap in treatment that can cost months.
Video removes several of those obstacles without changing what happens in the hour, and that is the whole argument for it. The clinical standard is the one set out in how care works here, and it does not move because the appointment is on a screen.
When video is the better choice
-
Distance
You live somewhere in Indiana that is a long way from New Albany, and a round trip would cost you a day.
-
Logistics
Childcare, a job that does not flex, or a condition that makes travel itself the hard part.
